Fred Eerdekens is an artist that I found and I just love. His art plays with light and shadow using a variety of materials — plants, wire, clothes, or cereal boxes — to spell out words. What looks like a squiggle of wire, a table full of groceries, or a pile of clothes on a table takes on a whole new meaning once light hits it in just the right spot.

.... and I think it is a great alternative to the vinyl wall adhesives that can be found at Target.

I've gotta give some props to my younger brother Nike Chapman.

He's a great designer and illustrator... AND has worked really hard to get there. I have seen it first hand. Nike is currently very involved in all that is happening in Hollywood (he will say he's not and its no big deal :p).  Most of the projects he is working on he can't even talk about or put on his website, because they are such a big deal.

So what can I talk about? In about two years I will be able to post a list of very recognizable projects, but until then Nike has been getting some recognition from NOTCOT and Protfo.li for "The Secret Lives of Monsters."

It really is fantastic and I myself will have to get some for gifts or even - who knows - If I have my own child I think it would be fantastic in a nursery.

Dead animals on the wall. Yes, some may be very opposed to them, but I'm generally not.... I'm not saying that I'm going hunting tomorrow (or really ever, let be honest) for a big trophy head, but I can see the beauty in the art behind preserving and presenting the animal.

However, artist Danielle van Ark's photos of these mounted animals in storage give me pause. I'm not sure how I feel about it, it just feels weird and even awkward. I think it is this awkwardness and the "out of place" feeling that made me take a second, third, and fourth look.

I wonder if these images trigger some primal alarm system... The "something isn't right... RUN!" alarm. 

There is a certain je ne sais quoi quality about these photos. They are unnerving, but I'm drawn to it.

 I am not an art critic, I just like it.

"The Mounted Life is a series of photographs by Royal Academy of Arts graduate Danielle van Ark. She visited the storage and archives of museums around the world and found animals in surroundings and environments so far from their natural habitats she was struck by the inherent contrast and photographed them. 

The series makes the most of the juxtaposition of wildlife and industrial imagery. The images are disturbing, funny, haunting, confrontational and even touching in their composition and subject matter. 

Danielle van Ark graduated in 2005 from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Since then she has been living and working in New York and the Netherlands. The artist now wields backstage access to 33 museums across Europe and North America, and she aims to package the entire collection into a book.

Thursdays I like to post something about art.

I feel like I have survived on a “wing and a prayer”

This week it feels like surviving my life has been art. Honestly, my life is not that hard, I actually have it quite easy… BUT for my life it was a crazy week.

Events so far…and it is only Thursday:

-found a new roommate on Craigslist.com (I will post about that later, but we found a good one!)

-First full week of work at my new job.

-On the side: working on a project that was SO MUCH more effort than I had ever thought. Every night 6-8 hours!

-I’m still trying to unpack my room, but I don’t have any furniture… Thus, I have to use “organized piles”. I hate it!

-I got a new phone. Fun, the learning process on top of everything was just another stressor!

See! I told you it isn’t that bad, I even feel a little silly… oh well.

Have you ever wanted art that was personal? Well, this one is quite personal - you will only share it with the other 252 people born that same minute on planet Earth.

I love the look of these pieces. Basically they are a depiction of where the stars and planets were located when you were born. To begin, provide StarArc with the exact month, day and year of birth. Also, to get the most accurate picture, you should provide the exact time and location of birth.

At this moment I am obsessed with navy and white, so these charts would work best in my house.

This 'Kissing Checklist' is the third in a series of kissing checklists from Rachel E Foster! Users are expected to cross off as they kiss!

This edition is a lovely letterpress print hand printed by the artist using black ink on off white printers paper with a deckled edge.

My brother showed me a new website for a gallery called KEEP CALM GALLERY they are based in London. I really enjoy the typography art.  I would like to do display these as a set of three or even do a big grouping like this photo from Pottery Barn.

I thought that this set of three were really cute... Maybe I'm just in that kind of mood!
